While the peak of Omicron infections seems to be dissipating, it is imperative to work on your body’s immunity post the disease by adopting healthier living choices and completing your COVID vaccine doses at the earliest. With that being said, the path to recovery after COVID is long and often filled with lots of doubts about the process and further testing and rehabilitation that is required. Read this blog  to understand what to expect when ending a quarantine and how to get back to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Recovering from COVID-19
Not all patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 experience symptoms, and ones that do often exhibit different symptoms based on the severity of the infection. Fever and cough are noted to be the most common signs observed. Other indicators may be, loss of smell & taste, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea and diarrhoea. The intensity of these symptoms determine whether home or hospital quarantine is required and for how long isolation is recommended.

Visit a doctor near you to help recover from COVID-19

  • Mild, symptomatic COVID-19: Isolation can end at least 7 days after symptoms first appear. It is recommended that the recovering patient continue to wear a mask around family members upto 5 days after ending the quarantine. Continue to monitor the symptoms and contact a doctor if the symptoms persist or worsen.

  • Asymptomatic, infected patients: Self-isolation can end at least 7 days after the first positive test. Do continue wearing a properly well-fitted mask around others for upto 5 days after ending the quarantine.

  • Moderate COVID-19 infection: Isolation is recommended for 10-14 days.

  • Severe illness in COVID infected patients: Due to the intensive nature of the care that needs to be provided, the doctor will recommend hospitalisation. 20-25 days will be the new duration of isolation and several precautions are to be taken at least 10 days after discharge as well. Patients who are immunocompromised will be given treatment in consultation with a specialist
